On the Banks of the Cape Fear by Art Newton

Southport's first professional artist, Art Newton (1922-1964) produced a prolific body of work that included pen and ink, pencil sketches, oil paintings, and his great love, watercolors.

In describing Newton's work, the State Port Pilot noted that Newton's work shows mid-20th century Southport as he saw it...the docks, the boats, the passing ships, the marshes, the beaches and the venerable architecture of Southport all speak to Art Newton's love of Southport.

The Southport Historical Society is proud to offer our members and friends selected watercolor prints from the Art Newton collection. Each print will be produced by the Ricky Evans Gallery using Giclee printing to produce fine art pieces on archival quality paper. Prints are available in two sizes 8 1/2" x 11" for $25 and 11 1/2" x 14" for $40.
